Laboratory Head in Neuropathology
The Position
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs.
At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
This position is located in Neurogenomics, a research section within the Neuroscience and Rare Disease (NRD) therapeutic area, where the primary focus is using genetics and genomics to suggest therapeutic targets, develop a better understanding of disease biology, identify potential biomarkers, and develop therapeutics for some of the most challenging neurological disorders.
Our section works closely with other sections and groups within NRD as well as laboratories within our Therapeutic Modalities and Pharmaceutical Sciences groups and Data & Analytics to convert hypotheses into innovative therapeutics for brain disorders across the lifespan.
Job mission
We are offering an outstanding opportunity to recruit and lead a lab whose primary focus will be to understand and quantify neurodegenerative disease pathology in animal models and human post-mortem tissues and biofluids.
With a deep knowledge and experience in Neuropathology, you will operate at the exciting interface of histopathology and cutting-edge multi-omics.
You will have tremendous resources and capabilities, and you will be surrounded by world-class scientists and drug hunters in a state-of-the-art new building located at the pRED center in Basel.
Your key responsibilities
You are recruiting and leading an effective team to understand pathology of neurodegenerative diseases at the cellular level by performing quantitative histopathology, spatial omics, and related experiments.
You are bringing deep scientific expertise about the pathology-relevant microenvironment how different cell types influence each other) during the neurodegenerative process as a key contributor to multiple projects.
You are generating ideas for back translation from clinical trial samples and data to target and / or biomarker identification
You are interfacing with omics and in vivo and in vitro models colleagues to design and interpret experiments
You are leading drug discovery projects related to neurodegenerative disorders.
Who you are :
PhD or MD / PhD in neuroscience or cellular biology with minimum 5 years of experience in Neuropathology
You are a rigorous scientist with a deep understanding and practical experience in cellular neuroscience, including major neural cell type histology in preclinical disease rodent / larger mammal models and post-mortem patient samples
You have expertise in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, and / or Multiple Sclerosis, including a solid grasp of the literature in neurodegeneration
You have experience using multi-omics approaches such as proteomics, transcriptomics, and / or single cell genomics to quantify differences in disease state, with experience integrating two or more of these omics approaches a plus
You bring a proven scientific-track record through impactful publications in relevant fields, patents, or substantial contributions to drug development programs
You are someone who is driven by the desire to find therapeutics for some of the most complicated and devastating disorders
You enjoy teamwork, diligence and efficiency. You are a kind and influential team leader and a trusted and knowledgeable colleague
Working in a multicultural environment motivates you
