Your responsibilities
As an Electronics Engineer, you'll join the Instrumentation Controls (IC) Section of the Cryogenics (CRG) Group within the Technology (TE) Department. The TE-CRG-IC section is responsible for providing the required instrumentation and readout electronics for the cryogenics equipment of the HL-LHC upgrade of the LHC.
We have designed custom electronics to read the various types of instrumentation signals (such as temperature, pressure, liquid helium level, as well as heater and valve actuators). Approximately 1500 electronic cards or various types will be produced, accepted, calibrated, and configured to acquire the data of the new HL-LHC cryogenics instrumentation.
You will be responsible for the acceptance and calibration of the electronic cards and will assist in the debugging and repair of cards that fail the reception tests. At a later stage, you will work in the installation and commissioning of the full instrumentation chains in the new HL-LHC caverns.
In this position, you'll have the opportunity to gain experience working on a large-scale installation and to follow the major steps of the acceptance of new electronic productions until their commissioning in the installation facilities and their final commissioning.
Key tasks for of this position include :
- Inspection of electronic card productions for defects.
- Performing electrical measurements on productions.
- Validating electronic cards in automated testbenches.
- Developing and following quality assurance documents.
- Preparing electronic racks for installation in the field.
- Validating the full instrumentation chain.
Depending on your skills and motivation, you'll also have the opportunity to work on further tasks such as :

What we offer
About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http : / / home.cern.
