About the role

You will be underwriting International Casualty treaty reinsurance programs and act as Account Executive for selected large client relationships.

In both roles, you will establish and maintain a close connection with key stakeholders at clients and brokers to promote their emotional attachment to MS Reinsurance and position us for winning attractive business.

You have a client centric and strong commercial mindset, are focused on the bottom-line result and make best use of our table stakes in negotiations to deliver profitable growth in line with the company’s objectives.

Your responsibilities

As International Casualty underwriter, you will

  • Secure a high UW quality and support the LoB Head to manage the portfolio at all stages of the market cycle in an optimal way
  • Collaborate closely with the MS Reinsurance Pricing Actuaries to evaluate opportunities and determine adequate terms to write them
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all MS Reinsurance pricing models and contribute to their continuous improvement
  • Identify and monitor casualty market dynamics and underwriting trends as well as relevant legislative and regulatory developments
  • Closely observe actual results vs. plan, and us them to contribute to the development of the portfolio strategy / tactics
  • Attend Management and Reserving meetings, incl. producing projections to identify reserving levels required

As Account Executive, you

  • Understand which R / I covers allocated clients purchase, what is the buying rationale for each placement and who are the decision makers for each of these programs
  • Jointly with relevant expert UW colleagues in MS Reinsurance, form an unbiased and fact-based view on the business the clients place and derive from that for our portfolio targets
  • Formulate a strategy with a suggested execution plan to be discussed with, challenged and vetted by with senior leaders
  • Execute the client strategy with clear roles & responsibilities, great communication (client, broker and internal) and tracking our success against set targets.

Your profile

University degree in Business / Economics, Law, Mathematics, or a related discipline; ACII, CPCU or equivalent insurance degree is a plus

At least 10 years of experience in underwriting different subclasses of Casualty business (preferably in primary insurance, facultative and / or treaty reinsurance format)

Solid product knowledge in General Third Party Liability, D&O, PI and FI Liability; experience in Transactional Liability, Cyber and the International Casualty space is a plus

Familiarity with different buying motivations and behaviours of clients, combined with the ability to articulate MS Re’s value in the clients’ world

Hands-on experience across different lines of business and geographies, incl. understanding of general market dynamics and the London broking market

Well-rounded with a strong business sense and excellent client management capabilities incl. the ability to personally engage across clients’ & brokers’ organizations

Profound understanding of economic dynamics of reinsurance business, superior negotiation skills with a high level of creativity and an interest in the emotional side of our business

Affinity to numbers, ability to price / structure reinsurance treaties, and to successfully manage portfolios through different market cycles

Self-organized, capable and enjoying to contribute to, to work with and to leverage an international team

You can think out of the box, roll your sleeves up and are not afraid to take charge of a situation; you believe in efficiency and simplifying processes without compromising quality

You are open-minded and resilient, perform under pressure and appreciate a culture of receiving & giving feedback

Willingness to travel for client meetings and conferences on a regular basis (20%)

Proficient with the Microsoft Suite of applications with advanced skills in Excel

Excellent command of written & spoken English is a must; German and French is a plus
