Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa's around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living.
Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain. The Laboratory for Thin Films and Photovoltaics at Empa is internationally known for innovative research in the fields of thin-film solar cells, solid-state batteries, and light-emitting devices.
Specifically, the Thin-Film Batteries group is developing solid-state micro-batteries that are fabricated by physical vapor deposition methods.
The thin-film geometry provides a versatile platform for exploring new materials, studying interfacial phenomena and realizing new device designs such as multi-stacked batteries
