Requirement

  • Professional experience as a Captain or Staff Captain
  • Qualification as a Captain on the Danube, on the Rhine, Main, Moselle, or the Seine and Rhône & Saône rivers in France.
  • A or B river patent
  • Knowledge of Z-Drive systems is an advantage
  • Radar and radio certificate
  • Good communication level in English and German or other international languages for navigation purposes
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Willingness to undertake responsibility for the ship, the guests, the entire crew, and the environment
  • Team player
  • Able to conduct training
  • Outgoing toward guests
  • Familiar to work in a multicultural environment
  • Good social skills, ability to interact with guests
  • Organized and dependable personality with a deep sense of responsibility to others
  • Well-groomed and maintain perfect hygiene standards

Benefits - Vice Captain

Year-Round Contract

Rotation for Vice Captain is approximately 4 weeks onboard and 4 weeks’ vacation. If you work your full 4 weeks, you are entitled to 4 weeks paid vacation.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Representing the Company spirit at all times and providing professional and courteous service
  • Responsible for ensuring a smooth operation of the entire nautical department on board
  • Active involvement in daily operations
  • Welcoming and greeting of guests according to the Company standard
  • Ensuring reaching constant higher guest satisfaction
  • Retaining full knowledge of the Company standards and operating procedures and responsible for the implementation on board
  • Conducting quality controls and spot checks
  • Distributing information within the team and exchanging information between all departments and Cruise Director
  • Taking an active role in creating a positive environment between all departments onboard and encouraging an open and respectful communication
  • Ensuring a clear line of communication with all shore-side partners and the Head office
  • Monitoring and supporting departmental training
  • Evaluating officers and providing feedback to them, including performance-enhancing action plans if necessary
  • Ensuring officers are frequently evaluating their team members and providing feedback to crewmembers, including performance-enhancing action plans if necessary
  • Supporting and encouraging talented crewmembers with further career steps, following the Company operating standards
  • Ensuring proper welcome and introduction to the team of new joining crewmembers
  • Monitoring and ensuring necessary disciplinary actions are taken and administered according to the Company standard
  • Organizing daily meetings with the Hotel Manager and Cruise Director
  • Ensuring timely reporting to authorities
  • Professionally cooperating with local authorities during inspections and audits
  • Ensuring that all reasonable guest requests are fulfilled
  • Editing the daily program in cooperation with the Cruise Director and Hotel Manager
  • Public speaking such as Welcome & Farewell speeches and actively participate in Captain's reception and Captain's dinner.
  • Monitoring the nautical department vacation plan
  • Monitoring the duty schedule following legal requirements
  • Familiar with all itinerary-related ports of call and shore excursions
  • Monitoring monthly inventories, purchase orders, and delivery control
  • Preparing and sending all cruise closings documents to the Head office on time
  • Proper use of the onboard system
  • Professional handling of guest complaints, including accurate reporting
  • Ensuring proper welcome and introduction to the team of new joining crewmembers
  • Ensuring no unauthorized persons are coming on board
  • Ensuring proper use of storage
  • Ensuring correct handling of all equipment, devices, and machinery and ensuring that defects are being reported to the Head office
  • Responsible for safety of ships, passenger, and crew
  • Carry out safety exercises for crew and passengers in compliance with legal safety regulations and the company's safety standards
  • Ensuring the Hotel department has a full understanding of the designated Safety role, duties, and in-port-manning
  • Actively assisting in modifying the timetable in the event of high water, low water, or any other navigational restriction.
  • Efficient handling of ship cashbox
  • Ensure the representative appearance of the entire nautical crew on the ship, whether cruising or in port
  • Ensuring to keep up to date of the ship licenses and certificates and timely report the expiry date to the Head office
  • Coordinate and carry out repairs on the deck area

Side Tasks

  • Participating in scheduled training, briefings, and meetings
  • Fulfilling further job-related duties as instructed by the Supervisor
  • Assisting other departments as per Supervisor's instruction
