The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement.

A truly global organisation, it acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all Olympic stakeholders, including the athletes, the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the International Sports Federations (IFs), Organising Committees for the Olympic Games, the Worldwide Olympic Partners and Media Rights-Holders.

It also works with public and private authorities, including the United Nations and other international organisations.

Mission

Your mission is to spearhead strategic initiatives and foster active engagement in the areas of medicine and science. You will provide ongoing support to the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission, offering guidance to the IOC and the broader sports movement on matters pertaining to health.

Your paramount focus lies in safeguarding the well-being of athletes, primarily through proactive and preventive measures, ensuring their optimum health and performance.

About you

As the leader of this department, you will be entrusted with three core areas of responsibility :

Firstly, you will be the steward of finance, meticulously managing the department's budget, proposing revenue objectives, and ensuring compliance with all financial rules and regulations.

Your strategic insights will guide the financial health of the department, allowing it to thrive and excel. You will also establish and manage the yearly and quadrennial plan and budget.

Secondly, communication and collaboration will be your forte. You will foster a culture of open dialogue within the department and forge strong relationships with other IOC departments and international stakeholders.

By seamlessly coordinating with other directors and commissions, you will ensure alignment and synergies across the organisation.

Lastly, your leadership will be paramount in driving team success. You will empower your teams to perform at their peak, allocating roles and responsibilities based on a shared vision.

Responsabilities

• Act as the guiding and strategic reference for the IOC and sports movement for all health, research, scientific and antidoping-related matters.
• Implement the medical and scientific-related Olympic Agenda 2020+5 recommendations.
• Further develop safeguarding programmes and initiatives which started with the IOC Safe Sport Unit, including safeguarding and mental health.
• Develop the IOC programme of medical and scientific research (e.g. injury and illness surveillance at the Games, Consensus statements and IOC Research Centres), education (e.

g. World Conference, National Olympic Committee (NOC) and International Federation (IF) medical meetings, and Advanced Team Physician Course), and publications (e.

g. British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM)).

• Implement the healthcare and doping control at the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games, working with the Organising Committees, IFs and NOCs, and delegating to the International Testing Agency (ITA) as appropriate.
• Work with the Organising Committees in partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and use external experts (such as the Medical and Scientific Commission Games Group) to ensure that all medical milestones are understood and met.
• Lead the IOC programme for protecting the health of athletes, particularly through illness and injury prevention and mental health.
• Support and work with the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission Chair and members.
• Communicate and work closely with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and other anti-doping stakeholders.
• Arrange the provision of appropriate medical support and advice to IOC Members and staff.
• Apply knowledge of public health, Games health legacy and promotion of exercise for health, working with the World Health Organization (WHO).
• Promote and protect good medical practice and ethical standards in the Olympic Movement.
• Promote new technologies where appropriate and prioritise the prevention of harm.

Education; Language and IT Competences

• Experience of the Olympic Games as the Medical Lead for an NOC, IF or Organising Committee.
• MD degree and practised medicine for at least 10 years with an Extensive Medical / Scientific Publications and / or PhD equivalent
• Experienced medical conference speaker and educator.
• Prior success in building relationships and communicating with diverse groups of people.
• Strong project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to lead change through complex organisations and adapt to a multicultural environment.
• Fluent in English with a good command of French.
