NGO Volunteering - Finance, Accounting & Tax (Geneva, Switzerland) (m/f/d)
About Digital Dignity
Digital Dignity is an NGO working to make the internet a safer space. We build survivor-first tech tools, shape digital-rights policy, and support a global community of people affected by online abuse. Our flagship product, the Intimate Image Finder & Remover, helps people detect and remove non-consensual intimate images online — directly addressing image-based sexual abuse (IBSA), one of the core issues we exist to fight.
We're a volunteer-powered organization: Since our founding, more than 65 volunteers from over 20 countries have contributed their expertise across engineering, design, law, mental health, and advocacy. All contributing toward a digital world where every identity is safe, respected, and free from abuse.
The Role
Digital Dignity is growing, and we’re now looking for a Volunteer Finance, Accounting & Tax Specialist to help us build a simple, reliable, and compliant financial setup for our Swiss association. You’ll work closely with our Board and help establish the financial backbone of the organization — from day-to-day accounting and financial reporting to Swiss tax and VAT requirements. This is a role for someone who enjoys turning regulatory requirements into pragmatic processes and wants to help shape the financial foundation of a growing international NGO.
What you'll do
- Set up and maintain our Swiss accounting structure
- Manage and improve bookkeeping processes for supporter revenues, Stripe transactions, operating expenses, and reimbursements
- Establish clear monthly and year-end closing processes
- Prepare financial reporting and annual accounts for the Board and General Assembly
- Coordinate Swiss tax filings and communication with relevant authorities
- Assess and monitor Swiss VAT obligations as the organization grows
- Support questions around Commercial Register and accounting requirements for the Swiss association
- Establish appropriate documentation, financial controls, and record-keeping processes
- Coordinate with external fiduciaries, tax advisors, or authorities where specialist input is required
- Help build a lean finance setup that can scale with Digital Dignity
What we're looking for
- Experience in Swiss accounting, finance, fiduciary services, and tax
- Good understanding of Swiss bookkeeping and annual reporting requirements
- Familiarity with Swiss VAT and taxation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, remote-first team
- A structured, reliable, and pragmatic way of working
- A genuine interest in digital rights and digital human rights
- Alignment with Digital Dignity’s mission and values
- Based in Switzerland, ideally area Geneva / Lausanne
Nice to have
- Experience with Swiss associations, foundations, NGOs, or other non-profit organizations
- Experience with Stripe or recurring digital subscription revenues
- Experience setting up accounting processes for an early-stage organization
- Background in a fiduciary, accounting, audit, or tax advisory firm
- Familiarity with accounting tools commonly used in Switzerland
- French in addition to English

- Freedom & Co-Creation: Experience autonomy, creativity, and trust. We don’t work in rigid hierarchies but in partnerships and a family feeling, built on openness, empowerment, and shared purpose.
Logistics
- This is a volunteer position, unpaid, but a meaningful opportunity to apply your financial expertise to an organization with real-world impact. We are growing dynamically and invite you to become part of something bigger.
- Remote work is fully supported; we’re a distributed, international team.
- The role requires residence in Switzerland.
- Flexible time commitment, to be agreed based on availability and scope.
- This role is best suited to someone looking to contribute consistently over the long term alongside an established professional role or other stable commitments.
