Cloud Platform Engineer

ppThe IT team of the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is looking for an experienced bCloud Platform Engineer /b to drive FMI’s transition to a modern hybrid cloud architecture. /p pThe FMI IT team supports 20 scientific research groups and multiple technology platforms. Our ability to generate insights from large-scale experimental data depends on having reliable and scalable computing platforms. To keep up with the needs of high-impact biomedical research, we are transforming from traditional on-premises infrastructure into hybrid cloud architecture. /p pbIn this role, you will /b /p ul liPlan and carry out the migration of applications and data to modern on-premises and cloud platforms. /li liDesign and implement integrations between on-premises Linux systems and AWS cloud services. /li liAutomate infrastructure provisioning and operations, building on and evolving our use of Ansible. /li liImprove platform reliability, performance, and cost efficiency throughout and after the migration. /li /ul pbAbout you /b /p ul liA university degree in IT, computer science or a related field, or equivalent proven professional experience. /li liAt least three years of hands‑on experience in cloud architecture, cloud operations, cloud systems administration, or a closely related area. /li liProven experience designing, deploying, and monitoring services on AWS. /li liStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills. /li liExpertise in Linux system administration, automation, configuration management and Infrastructure as Code, with a solid understanding of cloud networking and IT security. /li liFluency in English. /li liAWS certifications would be considered an advantage. /li /ul pbWhat we offer /b /p ul liA leading role in defining FMI’s cloud strategy, designing the target platform architecture, and guiding a major infrastructure transformation. /li liA dynamic, international, and multidisciplinary environment that values diversity and inclusion. /li liAn initial three-year contract, with the intention of building lasting cloud capabilities and the possibility of a permanent position. /li liA competitive compensation and benefits package. /li /ul pbHow to apply /b /p pPlease submit your CV and a short motivation letter at by August 31, 2026.
