Partnering closely with RD teams, you will drive strategic intellectual property decisions, build robust patent portfolios, and navigate complex legal landscapes to safeguard innovation across the product lifecycle. /p h3Job Description /h3 h3Key Responsibilities /h3 ul liProvide clear, strategic, and business-focused counsel to Novartis RD clients on invention protection, portfolio development, publication strategy, and third-party risks. /li liBuild and manage patent portfolios for Novartis RD projects by identifying inventions and preparing, prosecuting, maintaining, and defending patent filings across areas such as new molecular entities, processes, manufacturing, platforms, technologies, and clinical developments. /li liRender legal opinions on patentability, validity, and freedom to operate, and develop patent strategies that strengthen IP positions, support freedom to operate, and enable effective IP defense. /li liApply deep knowledge of national patent law and practice, including relevant legal developments and patent trends, to shape strategy and advice. /li liUnderstand and apply other forms of exclusivity protection, as appropriate. /li liCommunicate effectively with colleagues and leaders across the legal, IP, and RD organizations. /li liBuild and manage relationships with outside counsel and collaborators, including extensive interaction within a multicultural global patent function. /li liConduct due diligence and provide counsel based on those assessments, including freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity, risk evaluation, and risk mitigation strategies. /li liProvide IP support for transactional matters, including MA, research collaborations, and in-licensing opportunities, with advice on contract drafting and negotiation /li liEnsure high-quality, timely delivery of work aligned with business goals and budgets /li /ul h3Essential Requirements /h3 ul liUniversity degree in law, admission to the bar and qualification as a European Patent Attorney / Lawyer /li liAdvanced degree in chemistry or related field, with strong preference for a doctoral degree /li liSignificant experience as a patent attorney within a law firm or pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment /li liStrong technical expertise in chemistry, preferably including experience with small molecules, synthesis, or pharmaceutical development. /li liExpertise in U.S. and PCT patent law, filing processes, and prosecution practice, with a detailed understanding of European patent law and other major global patent systems /li liProven ability to partner with scientific and business stakeholders to deliver strategic intellectual property advice /li liStrong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills with high attention to detail /li liAbility to manage multiple priorities effectively within a fast-paced, global environment /li /ul h3Benefits Rewards /h3 pAt Novartis, we’re committed to reimagining medicine together - and rewarding the people who make it happen. /p h3Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role:CHF 146.300 - CHF 271.700 /h3 pThe base salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. /p pThe rewards of being part of our team go far beyond base pay and incentives.
