Job description SIB plays a key role in the development of the Swiss personalized health landscape.
Since 2017, SIB has led the , which allows for the secure mobilization of health data, its processing and exploitation in the realm of data-driven research approaches in biomedicine. Together with the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS), SIB has also co-led the . In particular, SIB has been in charge of the SPHN’s Data Coordination Center (DCC) responsible for the development, implementation and validation of coordinated data infrastructures in order to make health-relevant data interoperable and shareable for research in Switzerland. Financing for the SPHN and BioMedIT core data infrastructures is secured for the coming years under a new framework ().
To lead SIB’s activities in personalized health informatics into the future, we are looking for a new Group Leader (Director rank) (80-100%) to join our Centre of Excellence.

The missions of this role are to :
- Drive the development of the SPHN-DCC national service and data infrastructure portfolio in the context of the highly dynamic Swiss health research data ecosystem.
- Enhance SIB’s and reinforce its Centre of Excellence in Personalized Health Informatics by spearheading and participating in initiatives that facilitate the sharing and repurposing of medical data for research.
- Provide strategic direction and oversee the further development of BioMedIT, a network of secure IT infrastructures and services at Swiss schools of higher education, including the development and implementation of a strategy to ensure long-term sustainability of BioMedIT.
- In close collaboration with Swiss hospitals, universities, and other partners of SPHN, lead and manage the national efforts in the organization and FAIRification of clinical and molecular health data for personalized health research.
- Seize new collaboration opportunities at a European and national level and establish strong working relations with key national and international stakeholders and partners in the academic, clinical, industrial, and governmental realms.
- Manage budgets, and oversee efficient financial planning, management and deployment of resources.
- Ensure the strategic and operational leadership of the group as part of SIB’s Centre of Excellence.
- As member of SIB’s senior management team, contribute to the strategic development of the institute.
Profile requirements
PhD in bio- or medical informatics or closely related discipline, or an MD degree with a strong emphasis on biomedical data or comparableMinimum 5 years of management and leadership experience, managing medium-size teams in an academic, healthcare, or industrial life-science settingDemonstrated ability to plan and successfully lead multi-stakeholder projects in an academic, health research setting; industrial life-science experience is a plusExtensive experience in health data management, information technology, clinical bioinformatics, proven experience (5+ years) at a senior level of an organisation or network working on clinical and health dataDemonstrated track record in obtaining grants as a PI and / or setting up services and collaborationsAn entrepreneurial spirit, and the capacity to think synthetically and strategically, as well as to identify opportunities and anticipate potential threatsA collaborative spirit, exceptional interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills, the ability to find consensus and compromise and a solution-oriented attitude are key to succeeding in this roleA structured and strategic approach with excellent organizational skillsOutstanding writing and communication skills in English. Knowledge of German and / or French are a plusIdeally you already have an extensive network of connections in the Swiss healthcare, public health or health research spheres at a senior level and are familiar with the Swiss regulatory landscape and governmental players.This role requires frequent travel in Switzerland, and occasional international trips.
