• Help create and strengthen opportunities for internships, applied student projects, professional mentoring, and other forms of career-related engagement.

• Support students’ career readiness and professional development through opportunities to apply their academic learning beyond the classroom.

Research and Scholarly Contributions

• Maintain an active research agenda in Marketing or a related field, producing and publishing research in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.

• Participate actively in faculty committees, academic governance, and other forms of institutional service.

• Contribute, as appropriate, to recruitment, alumni engagement, program development, career-development initiatives, and other activities important to Franklin’s community.

• Collaborate collegially across disciplines and contribute to a positive, engaged, and productive academic environment.

Experience and Qualifications

• A PhD in Marketing, Management, or Business Administration completed by the time of appointment.

• Experience with, or strong readiness to develop, experiential and project-based pedagogies and partnerships beyond the classroom.

• An active research program and a record or clear potential for peer-reviewed publication appropriate to career stage and appointment rank.

• Willingness to collaborate across disciplines, mentor students, participate in institutional service, and engage with external professional partners.

• Fluency in English, the language of instruction; knowledge of one of Switzerland’s official languages is an asset.

Assistant Professor of History

About Franklin Switzerland

Founded in 1969, Franklin Switzerland is among the first institutions to bring the U.S. liberal arts model to Europe. Located in Sorengo, overlooking Lugano and its lake in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, Franklin combines a residential learning community, small classes, close faculty–student engagement, interdisciplinary study, and a global outlook. Franklin is accredited in the United States by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and operates as an accredited university institute within the Swiss higher education system.

A defining feature of Franklin’s curriculum is Academic Travel: faculty-designed and faculty-led study trips that connect classroom learning with international, place-based experiences. Integrated into course objectives and assessment, Academic Travel engages students directly with the historical, cultural, political, environmental, and social contexts they study. Franklin offers undergraduate and graduate programs and promotes a strong culture of teaching, scholarship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

• Develop and draw upon academic, professional, and external partnerships in Switzerland and beyond to enrich learning experiences and support student opportunities.

• Collaborate with faculty from other disciplines to foster innovative approaches to teaching, experiential learning, and course development.

• Contribute to academic advising and student mentoring, helping students navigate their academic programs and intellectual development.

• Participate in faculty committee work and other forms of academic service that support shared responsibilities within a small institution.

• Support, as appropriate, student recruitment, alumni relations, new program development, career-development activities, and other initiatives serving Franklin’s academic community.

• A record of scholarly achievement appropriate to career stage and a clearly articulated research agenda.
