ppEmployment Type: Contract /ph3Company Description /h3pAt CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on /ph3Introduction /h3pYou will join the talent pool for Limited Duration research positions within the CERN Theoretical Physics Department (CERN-TH), bringing together pre-assessed and endorsed candidates for future hiring opportunities based on organisational needs. As an outstanding researcher in theoretical particle physics, you will contribute to the development of new theoretical ideas aimed at understanding the fundamental constituents and forces of nature, while ensuring their relevance to CERN’s experimental programme and taking full advantage of the unique environment of a large international laboratory. You will also contribute to CERN’s scientific culture through active participation in training programmes and the promotion of scientific events on site. /ph3Functions /h3ulliMaking significant contributions to theoretical research related to elementary particle physics; /liliParticipating in and initiating a large variety of activities within the Theoretical Physics Department and possibly in collaboration with the experimental physicists working at CERN; /liliTaking part in CERN committees and study groups; /liliHelping maintain continued contacts with the outside scientific community. /li /ulh3Qualifications /h3pPhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Theoretical Physics or a related field. /ph3Experience /h3ulliDemonstrated post-doctoral research activities which have led to scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. /liliEvidence of ability to make significant contributions to the work of the Organization. /li /ulh3Technical competencies /h3ulliKnowledge and application of computational and mathematical physics /liliKnowledge and application of particle physics, phenomenology /liliThorough knowledge of theoretical physics. /li /ulh3Behavioural competencies /h3ulliAchieving results: delivering high quality work on time and fulfilling expectations. /liliSolving problems: identifying, defining and assessing problems, taking action to address them. /liliBuilding relationships: understanding how individual differences bring added value to the Organization; promoting complementarities. /liliCreating vision and strategic Partnerships: ensuring alignment to overall strategy when revising unit goals and priorities in the event of changing circumstances. /li /ulh3Language skills /h3pSpoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language. /ph3Additional Information /h3pbEligibility and closing date: /bbr/Diversity /pphas been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization.
