Role & Responsibilities

As Software Engineer – Large-Scale Data Processing Platforms, you will join a highly skilled engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining backend systems that process large volumes of real-time and batch data. You will contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle and help build scalable, resilient, and high-performance solutions used in a globally distributed environment.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy backend development, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and large-scale data processing challenges.
Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop and maintain high-performance backend applications for large-scale data processing environments
• Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance
• Develop robust, reusable and well-tested software solutions using object-oriented programming principles
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and deliver scalable solutions
• Implement automated testing and quality assurance practices to ensure software reliability
• Support troubleshooting, debugging and performance optimization activities
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of software architecture, coding standards and development processes
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the engineering team

Candidate Profile

You hold a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, alternatively a completed vocational education in software development, and you bring practical experience in backend software engineering within complex technical environments.
Additionally:

• 2–6 years of professional experience in backend software development
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and object-oriented software engineering principles
• Experience developing enterprise-grade backend services and scalable applications
• Practical experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit or similar automated testing solutions
• Good understanding of software design patterns, clean code principles and performance optimization
• Strong knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience with MongoDB is considered an advantage
• Exposure to Spring Boot is highly desirable
• Familiarity with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink or other event-driven and stream-processing technologies is beneficial
• Experience working with large-scale data processing, distributed systems or Big Data environments is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proactive, self-driven and hands-on working style
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken
• Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship, or valid Swiss work permit (B/C)
