DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of Team Lead, Health and Climate, the role of the Sustainability Manager is to :
1. Conduct strategic analysis and identify high-impact opportunities for greening products Conduct analysis (eg, life cycle assessment) of key health products within Unitaid's current / future portfolio to identify key sources of GHG emissions and environmental impacts
- Prioritize key levers and opportunities for addressing the main sources of emissions and impacts
- Analyse, as relevant, broader systemic aspects related to greener products and supply chains (eg, regulatory and procurement standards)
- Identify highest potential interventions for Unitaid, through investments, thought leadership and partnership approaches; develop relevant roadmaps and investment cases in support of these interventions
- Publish relevant landscapes, frameworks and analyses in order to contribute to the broader dissemination of knowledge on greener products
2. Lead the design and implementation of a portfolio of investments in support of greener products
Develop a pipeline of high impact investment opportunities for greening products, leveraging relevant entry points and mechanisms in Unitaid's grant management cycleEnsure strong complementarity and integration with Unitaid's broader investment pipeline, in collaboration with the Strategy teamFor “greening products” investments and / or activities : define the scope of work (eg, through calls for proposal), lead the technical assessment of proposals (or relevant parts of broader proposals); provide continuous strategic guidance and technical support for the design of grants and their implementation; reassess strategic relevance and value of investment as needed in order to support course correction / reprogramming as neededPrepare relevant documentation in support of key investment or programmatic decisions to be made by Unitaid's leadership team and BoardWith the Results team, develop relevant progress reports and impact estimates for internal and external useEnsure lessons from investments are regularly identified, documented, disseminated and acted upon in future investments3. Drive partner engagement activities in relation to greener products
Identify relevant partnership opportunities and contribute to developing these partnershipsSupport resource mobilization and communications efforts, in relation with the External Relations and Communication teamsRepresent Unitaid in key working groups, conferences, forums and initiatives (eg, ATACH)4. Contribute to building Unitaid's capacity in Health and Climate
Develop and maintain relevant frameworks and analytical tools for Unitaid's work on greener products; monitor the evolution of methods and standards for sustainability, and ensure their integration / adaptation for Unitaid as relevantIdentify and nurture a network of external experts and consultants to complement in-house expertiseContribute to key initiatives of the Health and Climate team as needed, including in terms of staff awareness and understanding of climate and environmental issuesREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential :
Advanced university degree in sustainability, supply chain management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.Desirable :
Degree / Diploma / certification in sustainability or sustainable supply chains.Experience
Essential :
At least 7 years of cumulated experience in health product supply chains, sustainable supply chains or a combination of the two, in the private or public or development sector, including at least 3 years of experience in sustainable supply chains in the health care sectorExperience working on climate mitigation or adaptation projects, ideally in the pharmaceuticals, life science or medical industries, alternatively in the complex manufactured products industry.Desirable :
Experience in conducting advanced analyses to inform business or policy decisions (for instance : business process analysis, product lifecycle / value chain analysis, financial analysis, investment case development)Experience in designing and delivering multi-stakeholder projects in complex environmentsExperience writing technical reports and documents for senior audiences (eg, Boards, leadership teams)Experience in global health or the development sector, network of partners active in sustainable supply chains for health.Skills
Extensive expertise in sustainable supply chain management of health products in international settings, encompassing medicines, diagnostics, and other technologies, with a strong knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, frameworks, and business environments.Proven professional experience with or knowledge of global environmental and climate issues, ideally including involvement in mitigation, resilience, or adaptation projects aimed at enhancing the sustainability of products / technologies with complex value chains.Solid understanding of health product markets, ideally in low and middle income countriesFamiliarity with global health and climate-related health challenges.Strong analytical skills; proven ability to design and produce complex supply chain / market analyses; demonstrated working knowledge of product lifecycle and value chain analysesExcellent interpersonal skills and ability influence others for positive results; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to deliver high impact results; ability to work in a dynamic environmentSound judgment and business acumenExcellent written and oral communication skillsStrong learning and self-reflection skillsWHO Competencies
