Internship in Reliability Testing for SiC-based Power Semiconductors 80 - 100% (f/m/d)
Description
:
The opportunity
The energy sector is undergoing a rapid transformation, driving demand for more efficient and reliable power electronic systems. Silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors are enabling the next generation of renewable energy, transportation, industrial, and power distribution applications. However, challenges related to the reliability of SiC MOSFETs must still be addressed to support their widespread adoption. The Semiconductor Packaging and Reliability Engineering research team is seeking an intern to support the development of an innovative test platform for reliability investigations. The internship will focus on the threshold voltage stability of SiC MOSFETs under extensive dynamic cycling and accelerated aging conditions. You will perform experimental measurements on a 3.3 kV / 150 A double-pulse test system, acquire and analyze measurement data, and contribute to the development of automated monitoring and data analysis tools. The work will combine experimental testing, data analysis, and semiconductor reliability investigations, linking experimental observations to device physics and contributing to the derivation of empirical stress-lifetime relationships. The internship duration is six months.
How you'll make an impact
- Conduct measurement campaigns and analyze experimental data using state-of-the-art methodologies from academia and industry
- Investigate the impact of electrical and thermal stress on the performance and reliability of SiC MOSFETs
- Develop innovative solutions to improve monitoring capabilities, including sensor systems, automated data acquisition, and data analysis tools
- Support the optimization of a half-bridge converter platform for long-term dynamic reliability testing of SiC MOSFETs
- Contribute to the development and improvement of measurement electronics and software needed to perform high-precision testing over extended operating periods
- Document and communicate results within the research team, academic collaborators, and relevant business stakeholders
Your background
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline (official enrolment is required)
- Familiarity with electrical measurement setups and laboratory instrumentation, such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, and data acquisition systems
- Strong interest in power electronics, semiconductor devices, and reliability engineering; previous experience in semiconductor characterization, high-voltage testing, or PCB design is considered an advantage
- Good programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar languages for data analysis and automation
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a hands-on attitude
- Ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary research team
- Good communication and technical writing skills
