About the Role

Imagine this. You are defining the physics behind a next generation navigation system that challenges how precision sensing is built. As Lead Sensor Physicist, you will own the design of the core sensing element for a proprietary Inertial Measurement Unit, transforming advanced mathematical models into high performance micro-scale sensor architectures. Your work will directly influence the accuracy, stability, and performance of a technology that pushes navigation beyond the limits of conventional hardware.

At Destinus, we are revolutionizing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our innovative technologies are designed to meet the unique demands of modern defense operations, delivering unparalleled speed, precision, and cost effectiveness. Destinus partners with government agencies and defense organizations worldwide to provide advanced solutions for mission-critical operations, enabling a new era of efficiency and technological superiority. Join us in shaping the future of defense with groundbreaking aerospace innovations.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and optimize the core micro-scale sensing structures using advanced multi physics simulation tools, defining the geometries that determine the performance of the IMU.
  • Model mechanical, structural, acoustic, and thermal behaviors to maximize energy storage while minimizing losses that impact sensor precision.
  • Design the electrostatic interfaces, including drive pads and sensing gaps, ensuring seamless integration with the electronics architecture.
  • Translate complex simulation results into detailed engineering layouts ready for fabrication in the cleanroom.
  • Collaborate closely with Materials and Process Engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable without compromising performance.
  • Work alongside FPGA and Software Engineers to convert physical sensor behavior into algorithms and system level requirements.
  • Continuously refine sensor performance through simulation, analysis, and validation to achieve exceptional levels of stability and accuracy.

Requirements

What You'll Need

  • Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing precision sensing technologies or advanced MEMS devices.
  • Extensive hands on experience with multi physics simulation software covering mechanical, thermal, structural, and electrostatic modelling.
  • Strong understanding of vibration dynamics, energy dissipation, structural mechanics, and micro-scale physical systems.
  • Experience translating theoretical physics into practical engineering designs suitable for manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience with precision sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, atomic clocks, resonators, or acoustic wave devices is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes and cleanroom manufacturing is considered a plus.

Who You Are

You are driven by curiosity and enjoy solving complex physical problems that have never been solved before. You combine deep theoretical knowledge with practical engineering thinking, always looking for elegant solutions that perform in the real world. You thrive in multidisciplinary environments where physics, electronics, manufacturing, and software come together. You take ownership of challenging technical problems, communicate clearly across teams, and are motivated by seeing your ideas evolve from mathematical models into breakthrough hardware that defines the future of autonomous flight.
