Summary of Responsibilities : Collaborate with the Student Development team to create and implement a strategic vision for engaging racial and culturally diverse students, supporting their success at Geneva College. This role will contribute to the work of the Center for Student Engagement, focusing on the retention and thriving of our domestic students of color.

Essential Responsibilities : (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  • Support Students of Color Serve students of color, supporting them and connecting them to the various support services available on campus. Supervise, guide, and assess the efforts of our Black Student Union Meet with each incoming student of color within their first six weeks on campus. Recruit, hire, supervise, and assess student leaders working on campus-wide racial and cultural diversity programming. Develop, execute, and assess educational programs for all students to increase racial and cultural diversity awareness. Develop support structures, such as a mentor program, that facilitate connection, belonging, and student success for students of color.
  • Racial and Cultural Diversity Programming, Campus Resourcing & Institutional Consulting Create and maintain a comprehensive annual schedule of learning opportunities including workshops, guest presenters, professional development opportunities, and related activities that support the development of the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to create a diverse learning and working environment. Assist in educating students and the campus community in becoming more culturally intelligent through presentations and programs. Plan and execute various cultural and educational programs. Maintain a working knowledge and connections in the field of racial and cultural diversity. Evaluate and assess effectiveness and educational impact of programs and activities. Provide leadership and support to administrators, departments, and colleagues on racial and cultural diversity programs and services, incorporating a Christian perspective on multiculturalism. Provide information, data, and referral resources to colleagues regarding internal and external resources relating to a Christian perspective of racial and cultural diversity. Create collaborative relationships with constituents, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Contribute to the Student Development Department & CSE office Attend student development meetings, professional development opportunities & functions according to the Dean of Student Development's schedule. Work cooperatively with Student Development staff and other offices on campus such as Athletics, Residence Life, academic departments, and student organizations to enhance programming for students across campus and help with retention through strategic programming and structures. Assist CSE office with administrative tasks including : office coverage, answering phones, paperwork, injury reports, database upkeep, general office communication, and other duties as needed. Adhere to all Geneva policies and procedures. Submit requested reports in a timely manner.
  • Supervision Supervise student employees to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning / directing work, coaching, evaluating performance, affirming, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

  • Physical : Must be able to perform the following : talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and telephones.

  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum : Education / Certification : Bachelor’s degree in relevant field Experience : 3-5 years in the field of Student Development or related field. Skill / Abilities : Demonstrate the ability to work as a team member, work collaboratively, and execute programs and co-programs with others on campus. Articulate a Christian perspective of student affairs. Integrate best practices in student affairs from a Biblical perspective. Demonstrated commitment to racial and cultural diversity, collaboration, a solid understanding of and appreciation for cultural, ethnic, and individual differences. Demonstrated experience in working with diverse colleagues (including faculty and staff) in multiple areas of higher education. Articulate and assess department learning outcomes. Experience in graphic design, media arts, social media, or other communication field. Understand and has the ability to express student development theory. Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to express faith development theory. Ability to manage multiple tasks, responsibilities, and details. Ability to work independently and possess sound autonomous decision-making capabilities. Meet all deadlines as required. Demonstrated ability to understand the concept of service learning. Operate a PC and related software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook. Christian Commitment : An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  • Preferred : Education / Certification : Masters or Graduate level degree (or willingness to pursue & complete) in related field. Experience : Five or more years in the field of Student Development. Knowledge of student development theory & function. Prior supervision experience. Skill / Abilities : Maintain effective working relationships with other people. Knowledge of student development theory & function. More than five years of ministry experience. Prior supervision experience.
