Bioinformatics / Biostatistics Staff Scientist, Bern Client : Institute for Infectious Diseases (IFIK), University of Bern Location : Bern Job Category : Other Job Reference : df0763ba8a44 Job Views : 4 Posted : 18.03.2025 Expiry Date : 02.05.2025 Job Description : Description The Institute for Infectious Diseases (IFIK), University of Bern has an opened position for a qualified and experienced staff bioinformatician to perform bioinformatic analyses of microbial and viral pathogens of clinical importance within its accredited Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) laboratory. We seek A researcher with competence in bioinformatics who will : Perform and further develop bioinformatic data analysis (NGS data workflow, database curation, reporting). Provide statistical support for process validation and process automation in the accredited microbiology diagnostic department of the institute. Essential Qualifications : Postgraduate degree in bioinformatics or related field (MSc as minimal qualification). Relevant work experience in NGS data analysis (amplicon sequencing, whole genome sequencing, metagenomics / transcriptomics). At least 2 years relevant work experience with Unix (Linux) systems. Advanced scripting skills (e.G., R / Bioconductor, bash, Python / Perl, Julia, Snakemake, Nextflow). Reliability, flexibility and ability to work in a dynamic team. Excellent oral and written communication (reporting and documentation). Spoken and written fluency in German and English (German is mandatory for this position). Advantageous Qualifications : Experience in clinical, medical or quality-control environments. Background in clinical microbiology, diversity analysis, phylogenetics, or related fields. Advanced use of statistical analysis (e.G. multivariate analysis, Bayesian statistics, machine learning algorithms). Percentage of salary : 80-100% Starting date : November 2024 Duration : Fixed-term contract for 24 months. Depending on performance and motivation, possibility of permanent contract.
