PhD Position in Cybersecurity and Applied Cryptography (m/f/d) University of St.Gallen (HSG), Institute of Computer Science, Cybersecurity & Applied Cryptography The Cybersecurity & Applied Cryptography Research Group at the University of St.Gallen (HSG), led by Prof. Dr. Katerina Mitrokotsa, invites applications for a full-time PhD position in cybersecurity and applied cryptography, starting on 1 April 2027 or by mutual agreement. Research Areas and Responsibilities - Conduct innovative research in applied cryptography and information security, including secure multi-party computation, privacy-enhancing technologies, and privacy-preserving authentication. - Design and develop secure, efficient and privacy-preserving cryptographic protocols. - Support teaching activities in computer security and cryptography. Candidate Profile - Master's degree (MSc) or equivalent, with a strong background in cryptography, network security and mathematics. - Strong foundations in cryptography and information security; prior research experience is an advantage. - Strong programming skills. - Excellent written and spoken English. Research Environment Our group is part of the Institute of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen. Our research focuses on provably secure cryptographic protocols, secure authentication, privacy-preserving computation and secure machine learning. The successful candidate will join an international research environment and become part of the Doctoral School of Computer Science (DCS) at HSG.
