JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of the development of our activities in the canton of Vaud, we are looking for a Junior Systems Test Engineer (M/F).

Reporting to a technical manager, you will join a multidisciplinary R&D team involved in the development and validation of advanced optical communication systems operating in highly demanding environments.

You will contribute to the testing of optical, RF, optomechanical and HW/SW components and subsystems. Initially supporting experienced engineers, you will progressively gain autonomy and take responsibility for small to medium-sized test campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Execute predefined test campaigns on components and subsystems in cleanroom and field environments.

  • Prepare, assemble and operate advanced experimental test setups.

  • Work with optical, optomechanical, RF, electronic and software-based instrumentation.

  • Perform testing and validation activities on optical and RF components, optomechanical assemblies and HW/SW subsystems.

  • Participate in subsystem integration and end-to-end testing activities.

  • Analyse test results against internal requirements, compliance matrices and supplier documentation.

  • Produce clear and accurate test and validation reports.

  • Support the development of proof-of-concepts and experimental demonstrators.

  • Contribute to formal and informal technical reviews.

  • Support cleanroom and laboratory maintenance activities.

  • Collaborate closely with optical, RF, hardware, software, mechanical and system engineering teams.

YOUR PROFILE

You hold a Master’s degree in Engineering, Photonics, Optics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

You are interested in experimental engineering and enjoy working directly with complex equipment and multidisciplinary systems. You demonstrate strong analytical and documentation skills and are comfortable working in laboratory and cleanroom environments.

A first experience gained through an internship, academic project or industrial position involving testing, instrumentation or system integration would be an advantage.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.

  • Strong interest in experimental testing and multidisciplinary system integration.

  • Knowledge or practical experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Satellite communications and payload architectures.

    • Lasers and optomechanics.

    • Optical communication systems.

    • Mechatronics and HW/SW integration.

    • Optical and RF instrumentation.

    • Test automation and Python.

    • Cleanroom testing activities.

    • Low-noise and low-vibration environments.

  • Ability to prepare and operate experimental test setups.

  • Strong documentation skills and ability to report technical findings accurately.

  • Analytical, rigorous and hands-on approach.

  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and international team.

  • Swiss or EU-27 citizenship.

  • Availability to work fully on-site in the Lausanne area.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in an industrial R&D environment.

  • Experience testing optical, RF or optomechanical components.

  • Knowledge of free-space optical communication systems.

  • Experience with telescopes, laser systems or precision optomechanical equipment.

  • Experience automating laboratory equipment using Python.

  • Exposure to satellite, aerospace or advanced communication systems.

Languages

  • Fluent English is mandatory.
