Working at three levels inthe Organization (global, regional and country), more than 7000 WHOstaff worldwide collaborate with the governments of 194 MemberStates and other partners to achieve the WHO founding vision of theattainment of the highest possible level of health by allpeople. /li liThe WHO Western Pacific Region is home to more than one quarterof the world''s population, stretching over more than one third ofthe distance around the globe. In all, more than 600 WHO staff workin 15 country offices and the Regional Office in Manila,Philippines, to support Member States in achieving better healthoutcomes for the Region''s nearly 1.9 billion people in 37 countriesand areas. /li liWHO presence in Viet Nam /li liViet Nam has been a WHO Member State since 17 May 1950. WHO wasone of the first United Nations agencies to support the Vietnamesehealth sector directly since the end of the war and reunificationof the country. WHO established a country office in Hanoi in 1977and a sub-office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2003. More than 50 WHOstaff in the country office have played a central role insupporting the people and the Government of Viet Nam to improvehealth. The mission of WHO in Viet Nam is to support the Governmentto achieve universal health coverage with all people having accessto high-quality health services, within the context of thecountry''sneeds and challenges in transitioning to middle-incomestatus. /li liPriorities of the United Nations in Viet Nam /li liThe Government of Viet Nam and the United Nations agencies,including WHO, adopted the Delivering as One principle andcommitted to the One United Nations initiative in Viet Nam in 2006.In July 2017, they jointly launched the One Strategic Plan , which identified focus areas and outcomes for the UnitedNations interventions in Viet Nam. /li /ul h3Context /h3 ul liThis UN Volunteer assignment is part of WHO Viet Nam''sstrengthening of strategic communication by providing support tothe office''s The Healthy Lifestyles and Environment (HLE)Team. /li liViet Nam has been a Member State of the World HealthOrganization (WHO) since 17 May 1950. WHO was among the firstUnited Nations agencies to provide direct support to the Vietnamesehealth sector following the end of the war and nationalreunification. A WHO Country Office was established in Hanoi in1977, and for decades, WHO staff have worked closely with theGovernment and people of Viet Nam to strengthen health systems andimprove population health outcomes. /li liThe Healthy Lifestyles and Environment (HLE) Team plays acentral role in WHO Viet Nam''s work to prevent disease and promotehealth across the life course. The team supports the Ministry ofHealth (MOH), Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), and otherGovernment Agencies, as well as works with a wide range of nationaland international partners on priority areas includingnoncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention, tobacco and alcoholcontrol, nutrition and physical activity, injury prevention,promoting healthy settings, environmental health, and climatechange and health. Through this work, the HLE team contributesdirectly to advancing universal health coverage, strengtheningprimary health care, and reducing avoidable health risks. /li liWHO Viet Nam''s HLE work aligns closely with nationalpriorities, including the Healthy Viet Nam Programme, the NationalStrategy on NCD Prevention and Control, the National NutritionStrategy, the National Child Injury Prevention and ControlProgramme, National Strategy for Ensuring Traffic Order and Safety,National Program on School Health, among others. /li liA strong emphasis of the HLE team''s approach is preventionfirst and people-centred action, informed by public health evidenceand behavioural insights. The team integrates health promotion,risk factor prevention, and supportive environments into itstechnical work, while also leveraging communication and social andbehaviour change approaches in collaboration with WHO Viet Nam''s Communications for Health (C4H) function. /li liThis UNV assignment forms part of WHO Viet Nam''s efforts tostrengthen the HLE team''s capacity to support prevention-orientedpolicies, programmes, and partnerships, and to advance WHO''sstrategic priority of promoting healthier, safer, and moreresilient communities across Viet Nam. /li /ul h3Task description /h3 ul liUnder the direct supervision of the HLE Team Lead, workingclosely with the Technical Officers (working on NCD risk factors aswell as injury and violence prevention), the Junior HealthyLifestyles Officer will undertake the following tasks: /li liTask 1: Provide support for NCD risk factors prevention andcontrol, including nutrition and tobacco control, as well as theschool health program. This will include: /li liSupport for the nutrition program, including inputs fortechnical documents and coordination support for engagingimplementing partners, and Monitoring and Evaluation (ME)activities /li liSupport for the public-facing events on tobacco control, especiallywhen there is senior-level WHO representation. /li liSupport for the school health program, including preparationfor meetings and workshops. /li liSupport monitoring of surveys when required. /li liSupport for translation of some documents when needed. /li liTask 2: Provide support for injury and violence preventionprograms /li liSupport for the road safety program, including Viet Nam Project2000 Partnership meetings, workshops, and events /li liSupport for the drowning prevention program. /li liSupport for the violence against children and womenprogram. /li liFurthermore, Junior Healthy Lifestyles Officer is requiredto: /li liStrengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept ofvolunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications andtaking an active part in UNV activities (for instance, in eventsthat mark International Volunteer Day); /li liBe acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local formsof volunteerism in the host country; /li liReflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that theyare undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflectionactivities; /li liContribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submitthem for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases,etc.; /li liAssist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UNVolunteers;
