Senior Database Engineer (SQL Server)

Location: Zurich Area (hybrid)

We are currently supporting one of Switzerland's most recognised critical infrastructure organisations in the search for an experienced Senior Database Engineer.

What you will be doing

Design, engineer and operate enterprise database platforms (primarily Microsoft SQL Server)

Ensure high availability, performance, security and reliability across mission-critical systems

Lead database lifecycle projects including upgrades, migrations and platform improvements

Define technical architectures and infrastructure solutions

Optimise performance, monitoring, disaster recovery and security

Provide technical consulting to internal stakeholders

Collaborate closely with application and integration teams

Participate in an on-call rotation supporting highly available production platforms

What we are looking for

5+ years' experience in Database Engineering / Database Administration

Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server

Experience with:

• AlwaysOn Availability Groups
• Performance tuning
• Database security
• Disaster Recovery
• Upgrades & lifecycle management

Good scripting knowledge (T-SQL and/or PowerShell)

Experience with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance would be highly beneficial

Exposure to MariaDB, Oracle or other database technologies is advantageous

Interest in integration technologies (Kafka / ESB) is a plus—but not essential

Fluent German and good English
