About the Role

Imagine this joining a team that is redefining precision navigation by transforming advanced engineering concepts into high performance hardware. As a Materials and Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in building proprietary inertial sensing technology, taking ultra high purity materials through fabrication, surface conditioning, and advanced packaging to create vacuum sealed sensor systems that push the boundaries of performance and reliability.

At Destinus, we are revolutionizing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our innovative technologies are designed to meet the unique demands of modern defense operations, delivering unparalleled speed, precision, and cost effectiveness. Destinus partners with government agencies and defense organizations worldwide to provide advanced solutions for mission-critical operations, enabling a new era of efficiency and technological superiority. Join us in shaping the future of defense with groundbreaking aerospace innovations.

What You'll Do

  • Source and qualify high purity crystal substrates for precision sensor manufacturing.
  • Develop and optimize chemical cleaning, polishing, and surface preparation processes to achieve exceptional surface quality.
  • Design and execute vacuum packaging processes, including wafer bonding and integration of micro scale getters to ensure long term vacuum stability.
  • Perform precision post processing and micro tuning by removing microscopic amounts of material to correct geometric and mass imbalances.
  • Coordinate cleanroom activities, including scheduling and overseeing deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) processes with internal and external facilities.
  • Work closely with physicists and multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate theoretical sensor designs into manufacturable hardware.
  • Define, document, and continuously improve fabrication and packaging processes to maximize repeatability, yield, and performance.
  • Support prototype development, process validation, and the transition toward scalable manufacturing.

Requirements

What You'll Need

  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science, Micro Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Hands on experience working in cleanroom environments.
  • Strong understanding of wafer bonding technologies, micro fabrication processes, and surface chemistry.
  • Experience with precision material modification techniques such as laser processing, ion beam machining, or specialized chemical etching.
  • Familiarity with vacuum packaging techniques and micro scale assembly processes.
  • Experience developing and documenting manufacturing processes for high precision devices.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a meticulous approach to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with high Q resonators, optical MEMS, inertial sensors, or atomic clocks.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and advanced microfabrication techniques.
  • Experience supporting low volume prototype production or research driven hardware development.

Who You Are

You enjoy transforming complex engineering concepts into tangible hardware with exceptional precision. You are comfortable working in cleanroom environments where attention to detail and process discipline are essential. You thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams and enjoy solving manufacturing challenges through experimentation and continuous improvement. You take ownership of your work, value quality at every stage of development, and are motivated by contributing to technologies that redefine the future of aerospace and defense.
