Established in 2003, Another Planet Entertainment is the only independent, locally owned and operated, full service concert production company in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. We promote events 52 weeks a year in venues from clubs to stadiums to multi-day festivals and everything in between. APE exclusively operates and promotes concerts at the Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley, San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, The Castro, and The Independent, the Fox Theater in Oakland, Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys, Channel 24 in Sacramento, as well as co-promoter of The Bellwether in Los Angeles. Lighting Designer | CH24
Job Title: Lighting Designer
Status: $24 -$35 per hour, Part Time/Seasonal (non-exempt) – commensurate with experience
Reports to: APE Director of Production and Channel 24 Production Manager
Location: Sacramento, CA
Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Perform load in and out of tour production gear and equipment
- Ensure all lighting equipment is functioning properly before and after each event, troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues.
- Program and operate the lighting console for lighting check and shows.
- Setup, operate, and call cues for spot lights as needed.
- Assist with venue stage power and help troubleshoot any electrical issues
- Create a cordial, cooperative, and welcoming environment for artists and tours.
- Ensure lighting needs for special and private events are met
- Communicate with touring lighting designers to answer their technical questions and facilitate their needs.
- Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on lighting equipment, including fixtures, cabling, and control systems.
- Attend production meetings, tech notes, and other meetings as needed by Production and requested by Management.
- When requested, participate in advance walk-throughs and surveys.
Skills / Experience
- 4-6 years experience as a lighting designer either with a touring production, venue staff, staff designer for lighting vendor or design firm.
- Familiarity with grandMA consoles, sACN, networking, Paradigm control systems, and set up and operation in a multi-console sACN environment.
- Experience with and ability to troubleshoot lighting networking infrastructure (over ethernet and fiber)
- Must have in depth knowledge of DMX routing and troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of power distribution and rigging safety. Must have OSHA 10 certification.
- Must have general electrical knowledge and be able to properly diagnose electrical issues. Must be able to calculate lighting loads and balance phases. Must be able to understand and utilize Ohm’s Law
- Experience with haze, lasers, or video integration in live events.
- Basic knowledge of power distribution and rigging safety.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, production designs, and technical drawings.
- Must have the ability to work in fast-paced and high stress situations while maintaining grace and composure.

- Ability to repeatedly lift, push or maneuver items up to 75 pounds, either alone or with assistance from others, as well as scale ladders and work in high places.
