Introduction

The University of Lausanne Center of Integrative Genomics (CIG) is a vibrant, well-funded department with a focus on functional genomics and equipped with modern core facilities (see ). It is embedded in the broader Lausanne research environment that includes two universities (UNIL, EPFL), the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, Ludwig Center for Cancer Research, University Hospital (CHUV), and a cluster of biotech companies flourishing in the larger Lake Geneva area.

Presentation

The Gatfield lab investigates how gene expression is regulated at the RNA level and how these mechanisms influence physiological processes in health and disease. We combine molecular, cellular, and in vivo approaches to uncover how RNA-based regulation shapes metabolism, signalling, and cellular function. Our work frequently employs high-throughput sequencing-based methods, such as ribosome profiling, along with extensive bioinformatics analyses.

We are part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) RNA & Disease (). This Swiss research network fosters excellence and collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of RNA biology, aiming to translate fundamental discoveries into medical applications. As a member of this community, the successful candidate will benefit from networking and training opportunities across Switzerland and close interactions with leading RNA research groups in Lausanne, Zürich, Bern, Basel, and Geneva.

Workplace : University of Lausanne, Dorigny

Your responsibilities

The successful candidate will conduct an independent experimental research project within the overarching themes of the lab, focusing on how ribosomes contribute to intracellular signalling and translational control, including the role of ribosomal heterogeneity. The work will involve mammalian cell and mouse models, providing opportunities to explore both fundamental mechanisms of translation regulation and their implications in disease contexts, such as cancer. Specific project directions can be adapted based on the candidate’s expertise and interests.

In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to teaching activities within the department’s undergraduate curriculum, helping to train and mentor the next generation of biologists.

The position is fully funded, but candidates will be encouraged and supported to apply for personal international fellowships as part of their professional development.
