Research Assistant / Lab Technician 50 %

The Department of Biomedicine is a joint effort between the University of Basel and the University Hospitals Basel. Your position

You will actively contribute to ongoing research activities with the following practical work priorities : (i) cell culture (cell propagation, deposition and quality control), (ii) molecular imaging and Western blotting (to validate the integration and expression of cloning constructs) and (iii) when time permits, the development of new research tools (cloning, integration, clonal selection, etc.). The position also includes administrative duties related to the documentation of cell lines and the ordering of consumables. New ideas and constructive suggestions are highly welcome.

Your profile

Applicants must have completed vocational training as a molecular biology research technician (lab technician) and / or have a BSc / MSc degree in molecular biology or equivalent. Previous work experience with cell culture (BL1 level) and basic molecular biology tools (e.g. SDS-PAGE or PCR) is expected. More specific knowledge of protein and / or RNA biochemistry will be considered advantageous. Experience in animal work (LTK1) is not required for the current assignment, but welcome. A good command of English is mandatory, of German helpful. Positive energy, reliability and forward thinking round off your application.

This work holds great promise for new discoveries with potentially far-reaching implications for reprogramming technology and the fight against cancer. It is funded by the Swiss Cancer Research Foundation (KFS) and, more recently, by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
