The Faculty of Psychology is one of seven faculties of the oldest university in Switzerland. With our core focus on Society & Choice and Health & Interventions, we are successful both nationally and internationally in our research and study programs.

We are seeking to fill a tenure track assistant professorship in human development, starting in the fall semester of 2025 or by arrangement.

Your assignments

The professorship to be filled conducts excellent research in the field of developmental psychology and teaches (4 semester hours per week) in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs (in the fields of developmental and differential psychology). Through studies, publications, and third-party funding, the professorship will make a significant contribution to raising the profile of the research focus Society & Choice.

The professorship of Human Development investigates the development and change of human experience and behavior over time from a psychological perspective, examining the entire lifespan and focusing on the study of cognitive and social development processes. Possible research topics of this professorship may be in one of the following three areas of developmental psychology : (1) School psychology and (digital) learning; (2) Dealing with social media or media skills training; (3) Development and promotion of social skills. Furthermore, research into successful interventions for the positive development of children, adolescents, and adults may receive particular attention. With a focus on the psychology of human development, the professorship Human Development will establish their own research program and create links to faculty, university, and regional units and institutions.

Your profile

We are looking for a person able to establish and further develop psychological research and teaching in the field of developmental psychology in Basel. Candidates have a university degree in psychology and extensive research experience in one or more of the areas of human development research outlined above. Candidates have a track-record of excellent international publications and experience in acquiring competitive third-party funding. Candidates have also successfully taught university courses at Bachelor's and / or Master's level. The professorship Human Development should offer the Faculty of Psychology development opportunities in research and teaching and open up access to an attractive research and employment market for students and graduates. A willingness to engage in dedicated teaching and active participation in academic self-administration as well as cooperative collaboration within the Faculty of Psychology and University of Basel is essential.
