The Whole School EAL Team Lead will provides strategic and operational leadership for English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision across the school. The role ensures coherence of philosophy alignment of practice and the effective use of evidence-based strategies that enable multilingual learners to access the curriculum and thrive academically socially and emotionally.

Working collaboratively with divisional principals curriculum coordinators and the EAL teams supports professional learning maintains systems for tracking student data refines policy and practice and ensures that ISZLs EAL provision continues to evolve in line with the schools guiding statements and international best practice.

This position includes a stipend and will begin in August of 2026. Only applications from internal candidates will be accepted.

Scope: All EAL teachers across the school (still direct report to Principals)

The Role

The Whole School EAL Team Lead is expected to:

Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide whole-school leadership for EAL ensuring coherent philosophy consistent practices and aligned documentation across divisions.
• Collaborate with divisional principals curriculum coordinators and the Student Support Services team to ensure a shared vision for multilingual learning.
• Support divisional EAL staff to develop implement and refine high-quality instructional practices that meet the needs of bilingual and multilingual learners.
• Lead the EAL team to ensure effective communication collaboration and professional growth across divisions.
• Represent the EAL team at relevant leadership and whole school student-support meetings.
• Lead whole-school meetings for all EAL teachers fostering alignment collaboration and the sharing of effective practices across divisions.

Teaching and Learning

• Promote research-informed approaches to language development academic literacy and culturally responsive pedagogy.
• Facilitate cross-divisional sharing of effective strategies resources and success stories to ensure continuity of language learning support.
• Work with curriculum and assessment leads to ensure that language development goals are embedded in planning and assessment practices.

Data Systems & Monitoring

• Maintain and refine consistent systems for identifying tracking and monitoring EAL learners across the school.
• Collaborate with divisional teams to review data on student progress ensuring timely identification of support needs and effective intervention.
• Support the use of data to inform planning placement and exit decisions for EAL students.
• Contribute to ongoing reflection and improvement through data-informed evaluation of EAL provision.

Professional Learning & Capacity Building

• Lead professional learning for staff related to multilingual education academic language development and inclusive instructional practices.
• Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote linguistic diversity multilingualism and inclusion.

Community & Communication

• Partner with families to build understanding of EAL programming student progress and strategies to support learning at home.
• Promote appreciation of linguistic and cultural diversity within the ISZL community.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Education Applied Linguistics TESOL or related field (Masters degree preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years experience teaching or coordinating EAL programmes including demonstrated leadership capacity.
• Deep understanding of second language acquisition bilingual education and culturally responsive pedagogy.
• Strong skills in data analysis organisation and strategic planning.
• Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
• Commitment to inclusive education multilingualism and ISZLs guiding statements.

The EAL Team demonstrates expertise in language acquisition and multilingual education and possesses the interpersonal skills needed to build trust foster collaboration and lead through influence. The successful candidate is reflective strategic and deeply committed to inclusive culturally responsive education.

Compensation

A yearly stipend of CHF 6000 is offered to team leads. Release time for this role will be provided; however the specific allocation will be determined in consultation with divisional leadership and will depend on the division in which the appointed person is based. This may take the form of a percentage of time per week or designated dates and times throughout the school year depending on workload scheduling and divisional priorities.
