Together, we are embarking on a journey where each of us—individually and collectively—welcomes and celebrates individual differences.In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Energy Industries Strategy and M&A function, guiding the team to define and implement the division's overall strategy in close collaboration with senior management. You will be accountable for identifying, scoping, and driving projects that are of critical strategic importance to the division, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results even under tight deadlines.You will lead market intelligence efforts to support strategic decision-making, enabling effective prioritization for local sales units and providing insights into market growth and competitive positioning. Additionally, you will ensure that the division's strategic initiatives are well-defined and effectively executed, working closely with cross-functional teams and senior leaders to drive alignment and establish best practices, such as the use of scorecards, clear accountability structures, and incentive alignment.A key responsibility will be overseeing M&A activities, including search field definition, origination, and active acquisition projects. You will conduct comprehensive due diligence to assess the strategic fit, financial performance, and risks associated with potential acquisition targets. You will also be accountable for cascading the division's strategy and prioritized initiatives, working closely with Communications to ensure clarity and alignment.Finally, you will lead the preparation of high-impact presentations and documentation for executive management meetings, up to the ABB Executive Committee and Board of Directors, facilitating informed decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.This role is with preferred location - Switzerland / Zurich.

Qualifications for the role

  • To be successful in this role, you will need over 10 years of relevant work experience, with typical profiles including principal-level individuals from top-tier consultancies. A solid understanding of the automation and energy sector markets is essential, with direct experience in these fields considered a plus. You will be responsible for leading major strategy projects and teams, demonstrating excellent project management and leadership skills. Superior verbal and written communication skills in English are required, along with the ability to independently prioritize tasks and make strategic tradeoffs in a semi-quantitative environment. You will be accountable for guiding and leveraging project teams across different levels, functions, and regions, even without formal reporting lines. Strong influencing skills are essential to align stakeholders and secure buy-in on key decisions. Additionally, a bias toward pragmatic action and a proactive approach to initiating engagement with others is key to thriving in a dynamic, international work environment.
