Contexte
The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Through its collaboration with the University of Lausanne - Faculty of Biology and Medicine and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the CHUV plays a leading role in the fields of medical care, medical research and training.
The candidates will work on projects aiming to determine the neuroendocrine basis of human reproduction by combining clinical data, human genetics, bioinformatics and IPS cell-based model systems. The discovery of novel genes involved in congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) may allow for a better genotype-phenotype correlation, as well as an improvement in precision medicine and genetic counselling. The patients’ mutations present in novel genes identified throughout this project will i) be used to assess their effect on human GnRH neuron biology and ii) increase our understanding of neuroendocrine control of reproduction with potential applications to a broader spectrum of fertility pathologies.
Mission
Through the doctoral thesis:
You will implement a variety of bioinformatics and genetics applications to high-throughput sequencing data (e.g. WGS, bulk and single cell RNA-seq…)(1, 2)
You will help discover new genes and pathways involved in the pathogenesis of congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and puberty
You will compile, evaluate and compare the clinical, genetic, and metabolomics data from our large CHH patients cohort with control cohorts (1, 2)
You will implement in vitro models of GnRH neuron development using patient-derived IPS cells
Profil
You have a master’s degree in genetics / bioinformatics / molecular & cellular biology
You have a previous experience in human genetics, high - throughput data handling, bioinformatics / programming, Stem cell / IPS cells derivation and differentitation
You have strong organizational skills and ability to work as part of a collaborative, international team
You are fluent in French, English
