Our client, a cutting-edge leader in grid infrastructure, is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer (m / w / d) with deep expertise in Power Electronics and High Voltage Systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of high-efficiency power conversion systems, with a focus on high-voltage applications.
This role requires both theoretical and practical proficiency in power semiconductor devices, converter topologies, magnetics, EMC / EMI compliance, and thermal design in demanding environments.
Job responsibilities :
- Design, simulate, and develop high-voltage power electronic converters (AC / DC, DC / DC, DC / AC) for applications such as energy storage, EV powertrains, renewables, or industrial drives.
- Select and evaluate power semiconductors (Si, SiC, GaN) and gate driver circuits for high-voltage, high-frequency switching applications.
- Perform electrical circuit simulation using SPICE, PLECS, or MATLAB / Simulink for converter behavior, transient response, and protection strategies.
- Develop schematics and PCB layouts for power and control circuits using Altium or equivalent; optimize for creepage / clearance, thermal paths, and EMI mitigation.
- Design and specify magnetic components (inductors, transformers) and collaborate with vendors for custom magnetics.
- Execute thermal modeling and heat sink design, working closely with mechanical engineering teams.
- Ensure designs meet EMC / EMI compliance and relevant international safety standards (IEC, UL, ISO, etc.).
- Develop and oversee test plans for hardware validation, including HV lab setup, measurement techniques, and failure analysis.
- Generate detailed design documentation, BOMs, and revision-controlled releases within a PLM / ERP system.
- Collaborate with firmware, systems, and manufacturing engineering teams to deliver production-ready designs.
Your profile :
Education background in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.5+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics hardware design, focused on high-voltage (>600V) systems.
In-depth knowledge of power converter topologies, including isolated / non-isolated designs (buck, boost, flyback, LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, etc.).Experience designing with SiC / GaN power devices and understanding of their switching behavior and gate driving requirements.Proficient in simulation and design tools : SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB, Altium, and thermal / EMI tools.Experience with high-power lab testing, HV safety practices, oscilloscope / probe selection, and failure diagnostics.Familiarity with applicable compliance standards : UL 1741, IEC 60664, EN 50178, ISO 26262, etc.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in aerospace, grid-tied systems, or renewable energy.Knowledge of control algorithms for power converters and interface with digital controlFamiliarity with HV isolation techniques, digital communication protocols (CAN, RS485, Modbus), and fault handling in safety-critical environments.Exposure to certification processes for grid compliance, EV standards, or industrial systems.Practical experience in design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for reliability (DFR) in volume production. Are you looking for a new challenge?
