Head Intraday Algorithmic Trading

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Algorithmic Trading to lead our algo trading team in the day-ahead and intraday power markets across CWE and the Nordics. The role combines deep market insight with automation and data-driven decision-making to deliver efficient and adaptive trading strategies.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in power markets, strong quantitative skills, and a track record in algo trading and automation. You will oversee the continued development and optimization of our algorithmic trading framework, working closely with IT, compliance, and risk teams to ensure robust, compliant, and high-speed execution. As Product Owner of the algorithmic trading framework, you will define the roadmap for ongoing improvements, ensuring that the platform evolves in line with business needs, market developments, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves close collaboration with the quantitative and analysis teams, as well as with other intraday desks managing portfolios of physical assets, to ensure coherent strategy development and optimal market performance.

Your accountabilities

• Algo Trading Strategy & Development
  -Lead the design, development, and execution of algorithmic trading strategies for day-ahead, intraday, and imbalance markets across CWE and the Nordics.
  -Hold full P&L responsibility for algorithmic trading activities, ensuring alignment with trading objectives and risk appetite.
  -Collaborate with quantitative analysts, data scientists, and intraday desks managing asset portfolios to ensure coherent strategy design and cross-desk synergies
• Development & Ownership of the Algo Trading Framework
  -Act as the Product Owner of the algorithmic trading framework, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the trading desk.
  -Work closely with IT, quants, and data engineers to define technical specifications, prioritize development tasks, and implement enhancements.
  -Drive the automation and scalability of the framework to support increased trading volumes and new market opportunities.
  -Ensure robust testing, backtesting, and real-time monitoring capabilities to maintain optimal algorithm performance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Compliance
  -Work closely with compliance, IT, and risk teams to ensure regulatory alignment and risk management of algo trading strategies.
  -Lead discussions on market regulations and compliance topics, ensuring algo trading remains fully compliant with European energy market regulations.
  -Partner with risk management teams to implement controls and define appropriate limits for algorithmic trading.
• Team Leadership & Growth
  -Build and manage a high-performing algo trading team, developing a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.
  -Define and execute a strategic roadmap for algorithmic trading expansion.

Your profile

• Deep knowledge of power markets, particularly CWE and Nordic day-ahead & intraday trading as well as balancing mechanisms.
• Proficient in Python, with strong experience in building and maintaining algorithmic trading tools and data pipelines.
• Skilled in time series analysis and machine learning, with practical experience applying quantitative methods to market forecasting and signal generation.
• Solid understanding of European market regulations and their implications for automated and algorithmic trading strategies.
• Strong leadership experience, with a track record of building, mentoring, and managing high-performing quantitative and algorithmic trading
• Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between trading, quantitative analysis and technology teams.
• Ability to perform in a high-pressure, real-time trading environment.
