The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) has opened one full time (100%) position for a PostDoc Researcher in the area of machine learning  with a focus on deep reinforcement learning  who will be active in the research area of machine learning at IDSIA at the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI) located in the USI-SUPSI Campus in Lugano, within the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA).  Contract start January 1st 2024, or date to be agreed upon.

Tasks

  • Theoretical analysis, design and implementation (all three required) of reinforcement learning systems with a special focus on deep and multi-agent reinforcement learning.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science / Mathematics or related areas with a publication record in the area of reinforcement learning and engineering.
  • Ability to conduct independent research in the theory of reinforcement learning and to engineer reinforcement learning systems.
  • Expertise in the Mathematics of deep and multi-agent reinforcement learning (in particular stochastic processes, non-linear operators, fixed point theory, Bayesian statistics, Nash equilibria and stability theory) and the ability to connect concepts to practical algorithms.
  • Experience in cutting edge deep reinforcement learning research, such as upside-down reinforcement learning, online decision transformers, goal-conditioned reinforcement learning, etc.
  • Experience with choosing appropriate reinforcement learning frameworks & algorithms for practical tasks and the ability to design custom systems for specified problems.
