Postdoc in "Development and (X-ray based) analysis of materials systems for space applications"

The Center for X-ray Analytics develops X-ray methodologies for understanding structural behaviour in materials science. We focus on the evaluation of the structure property relationship in applications such as biomedicine and the frame of an industrial project we are looking for a postdoc holding a PhD in material science physics or chemistry with a clear link to X-ray based analytical methods especially to X-ray diffraction and if possible X-ray imaging. We expect the candidates enthusiasm for interdisciplinary work related to Space sciences. The working place will be Dübendorf / Zurich.

Your tasks

• Developing new materials concepts in the space domain with partners from Empa internal and external partners.
• Developing characterization strategies mainly based on our non-destructive X-ray based methods : X-ray diffraction scattering & imaging.
• Active interactions and support of scientific collaborators and industrial partners.
• Presentation of scientific results through publications and on conferences.

The position is available for the 1st of March 2026 or upon agreement and will be initially limited to one year with a performance based possibility for contract extension.
