PATENT SCIENTIST

ROLE :

  • Contribute to protecting and valorizing SICPA’s IP assets across a large spectrum of technologies, scientific domains and business activities.
  • Engage and collaborate with internal inventors and technology partners to identify and extract patentable inventions, prepare technical memos and lead the preparation of patent applications or trade secrets.
  • Closely work with the internal patent attorneys to ensure that the scope and value of the inventions are translated well into the patent applications.
  • Assist the Legal IP team in the filing and defense of patent applications until patents are granted.
  • Contribute to address key strategic questions and imperatives regarding the patent portfolio.
  • Work in tandem with the Legal IP team, the Research & Innovation teams and the Business Units, focusing on the technical memo contents

to formulate strategies and responses to third party observations,

  • to evaluate and mitigate third-party IP risks,
  • to conduct oppositions and
  • to assess IP clearance and Freedom to Operate.
  • Drive the patent watch, monitoring and landscaping activities as part of a global and multi-disciplinary competitive intelligence effort.
  • PROFILE :

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or Physical Chemistry
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in industry, preferably in R&D
  • Fluent in French and English; good reading and understanding of German
  • Experience with intellectual property (IP) tasks and patents search tools is a plus
  • Broad technical knowledge, curiosity and openness to new ideas and technologies
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to details
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact with a large spectrum of internal and external stakeholders such as research scientists, engineers, technology partners (startups, corporates, academia), patent counsels, business development and sales managers.
  • Strong team spirit and eagerness to learn and contribute
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects with tight deadlines, ability to work with multiple demanding internal customers
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Proficient with usual IT tools such as MS Office
