Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF) is an affiliate of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation. The mission of SPF is sustainably improving the situation of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) through clinical and interdisciplinary research on a national and international level. Specific areas of its comprehensive research include functioning, movement and mobility, social integration, equality of opportunity, self-determination, quality of life, health services provision as well as morbidity and mortality. SPF is an extra-university research institution recognized and promoted by the Swiss federal government and the cantons and an active link to academic and industrial research and development at the national and international levels.
We are seeking a PhD candidate to join our Cardiometabolic and Respiratory Research Group.

The cardiometabolic and respiratory research group aims to improve cardiometabolic and respiratory health and functioning determinants and support development and implementation of cost-effective personalized interventions for reducing disease burden.
The research project "Deciphering Cardiovascular Aging in the Context of Spinal Cord Injury" will focus on improving the understanding and prevention of cardiovascular diseases in individuals aging with spinal cord injury. The project will comprise a systematic review of the literature (and meta-analysis), and observational and interventional studies in close collaboration with the Outpatient Clinic of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre which is located close by. International collaborations and the SwiSCI cohort data (www.swisci.ch) will serve to set the clinical data into a broad context and increase reliability of the results

The position is for 3 years; starting date February 2025 or upon individual agreement. The successful candidate will be enrolled in PhD program at Graduate Health School at the University of Bern and affiliated with the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Bern, and with the University Campus Nottwil. PD. Dr Marija Glisic will be a supervisor.
