Job description SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is a non-profit organisation federating over 80 Swiss research and service groups of experts in bioinformatics. SIB's 800 scientists join forces to empower advances in life sciences and health by providing life scientists and clinicians with state-of-the-art bioinformatics resources, services, expertise, and training. The is in charge of coordinating, developing and providing high quality training courses and expanding scientists’ bioinformatics skills and competences.
The , part of the University of Zurich, fosters research and education at the interface of biomedical research, biotechnology, and computational biomedicine to develop the foundations of next-generation precision medicine.
The SIB Training Group and DQBM are hiring a bioinformatician to support training, provide researchers with bioinformatics services, and engage in activities to build a bioinformatics community in Zurich.
Your position The activities of the successful candidate will be shared between the SIB Training Group (50%), to develop and provide bioinformatics training, and the DQBM team (50%), to help increase the connection of the bioinformatic stakeholders. The employment contract will be temporary with option for extension.
We offer The position will be fully hosted at DQBM in Zurich. You will be part of a highly efficient and motivated team of clinicians, biomedical researchers, bioinformaticians, data analysts, data managers and scientific IT specialists. As a member of the SIB Training Group, you will join forces with a dynamic and enthusiastic group of bioinformatics experts embedded in diverse Swiss research institutions. Training activities will be focused in Zurich and surrounding area, however there will be opportunities to teach across Switzerland. We support our team members in their own training and networking. As a member of the DQBM, you will engage with a variety of biomedical and computational labs, providing your expertise to support their research. Additionally, you will serve as a linchpin for the digital health and bioinformatics community in Zurich by managing community-building activities.
Profile requirements Our ideal candidate has a PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related subject, and enthusiasm for training. Some postdoctoral experience and a track record in teaching and / or outreach and training, at university or elsewhere, are a plus. The content of the training courses to be developed and offered can be adapted to the background of the candidate, and we are interested in expertise in the broad area of single-cell analysis. Establishing training and support in spatial omics will be a priority of the position.
- proficiency in at least one programming language (primary working languages will be R and Python)
- proven experience with single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data analysis
- proficiency in using computational reproducibility tools and collaborative frameworks (e.g., GitHub)
- experience in biostatistics and / or machine learning
- experience in high-performance computing (cluster or cloud computing, Docker…)
- very good organisational skills
- a demonstrated ability to collaborate with researchers from various fields
Given the service-oriented nature of the position, we expect our candidate to be capable of following several projects in parallel. We are looking for candidates who are adaptable and able to grow into advanced topics.
