Universität BaselBasel, CHThe research group Landscape Ecology and Ecosystems Conservation at the Department of Environmental Sciences invites applications for a technician position.
We are looking for a long-term technician to join our group. Our applied research evaluates how nature and society interact and how environmental policy and ecosystem management can influence both. We use spatially explicit environmental data to understand the distribution of species and ecosystems across geographic areas and over time and how these interact with human uses / impacts.
Your position
You will be responsible for managing and harmonizing the group's data, as well as organizing field, lab, and IT materials, including purchases. You will support group members in developing efficient code for running on both workstations and clusters and assist in planning and conducting field campaigns.
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and reliable candidate with a self-organized and solution-oriented mindset. Applicants should have programming experience, preferably in R, and be willing to participate in fieldwork campaigns. Knowledge of geographic information systems and handling spatial data is essential. A valid driver's license is required. Good spoken English is necessary for effective communication with all members of the research group, and knowledge of German is a plus.
We offer you
A diverse and interesting part-time technician position in a dynamic research group in the international and interdisciplinary Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel in Switzerland. You will join a supportive and cooperative working environment in a new research group. The position will initially be for one year with the possibility of extension for three years, depending on the performance of the candidate. Salary and social benefits are provided according to the rules of the University of Basel.
Application / Contact
Please upload your application via our online platform. lt should include : a motivation letter (max. 1 page), a CV, copies of relevant degrees, and the contact details of 3 referees. We especially encourage applications from women and members of underrepresented groups in academic institutions. Review of applications will begin on April 1st 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
