This position is located in preclinical Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls (pCMC) a department within the Small Molecule Research (SMR) organization in pRED Therapeutic Modalities (TMo). We pave the path to bring drug candidates from early research into development in a diverse ambitious innovative and collaborative environment. We are CMC experts and build our strength on a broad diversity of technical expertise in chemistry formulation design material science and analytical chemistry delivering and innovating in the space of small molecules peptides and nucleic acid-based medicines.
The opportunity
We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel as a Senior / Principal Associate in the Pharmaceutical Material Sciences this role you will be applying your skills to the scientific and analytical foundations for rational solid form selection and milling of drug candidates. Your contributions will be instrumental in advancing our portfolio by successfully transforming molecules into medicines.
Therefore we are looking for a creative hands-on expert who will take ownership of planning and executing optimal milling processes for each project at various scales approaching technical and scientific challenges with enthusiasm and a problem-solving mindset.
Additionally you will have the chance to further our contributions to material sciences through state of the art solid state analytical technologies.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include :
As a partner to project teams you will independently plan and perform optimal milling processes to support the formulation development of diverse projects.
You assume full ownership of the milling facilities including day-to-day upkeep troubleshooting and minor maintenance and coordinating complex repairs with dedicated internal or external specialists.
You will evaluate optimize and implement new technologies in the field to enhance efficiency and product quality.
You will maintain a detailed and accurate record of all experimental work and author comprehensive technical reports summaries and presentations.
You will work effectively within a cross-functional environment fostering clear communication with interfaces and project teams to ensure seamless project progression.
As a specialist in solid form analytics your focus will be performing XRPD (X-ray Powder Diffraction) analyses to ensure a thorough understanding of solid forms across different projects and stages of development.
Who you are :
You hold a successful apprenticeship Bachelors degree or higher in Material Sciences Pharmaceutical Technology Solid State Chemistry or a related field.
You have proven experience in the context of milling pharmaceutically relevant materials or you bring proven experience in characterizing solid form or powder properties with a strong drive to become a milling expert.
Experience in solid form analytics - especially XRPD or pharmaceutical solid form screening is beneficial.
You demonstrate a high level of technical understanding and ideally have experience in automation.
You exhibit meticulous laboratory hygiene and show strong safety awareness while experience in handling highly active substances is a plus.
A proactive results-driven mindset combined with excellent problem-solving skills is essential.
You demonstrate the ability to operate in self-organized teams with flat hierarchy and collaborate inclusively across departments and global functions.
Strong communication skills and fluency in English both written and spoken are required. German skills and fluency would be considered a strong advantage.
