Associate Patent Counsel – Data Science
dsm-firmenich is seeking a dynamic Associate Patent Counsel to join our Intellectual Property team. As an essential member of the team, you will support the development of our patent portfolio and manage the patent lifecycle in the rapidly evolving field of data science applied to nutrition, health and beauty. Key Responsibilities :
- Raise awareness across the innovation community about patent opportunities in data science; work closely with inventors and technology teams to identify patentable inventions in data science as it applies to our industry.
- Work under the supervision of a European Patent Attorney and complete European Patent Attorney qualification.
- Collaborate with cross-business teams to develop and implement a data science IP strategy aligned with business goals, drafting and prosecuting high-quality global patent applications.
- Analyze prior art to assess patentability and / or validity of dsm-firmenich and / or third party patents and to assess freedom-to-operate of products or technologies in the area of data science.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, legal developments, and changes in patent law affecting data science.
- Cultivate across the dsm-firmenich organization a mindset of continuous learning about the latest developments in IP related to data science.

Master’s Degree or PhD in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a related discipline.Partial / full EQE qualification preferred.Experience in patent drafting / prosecution and / or patent searching in data science or related discipline would be a plus.Ability to quickly understand and articulate complex technical concepts.Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills to contribute to the development of intellectual property strategy.Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to build trust-based working relationships across the organization.The application process :
