PostDoc Position in Gastroenterology / Mucosal Immunology

The research group “Gastroenterology" under the guidance of Prof. Jan Niess at the Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland, is looking for a scientist interested in mucosal immunology. Our research focuses on investigations designed to study immune responses to the intestinal microbiota and their products leading to intestinal diseases, such as eosinophilic esophagitis and inflammatory bowel disease. Particularly, we will study how food-derived antigens are recognized by the esophageal immune system and initiate eosinophilic esophagitis. The starting day will be February 2024.

• Planning and design of experiments, including mouse experimentation
• Carrying out cell isolation from the spleen and intestine, flow cytometry, RNA isolation and qPCR, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence
• Single-cell RNA sequencing
• Generation of patient-derived organoids
• Ph.D. in immunology
• Experience in common immunological techniques and molecular biology
• Independence and being a team player in a research group
• Responsible and versatile tasks in a dynamic research group
• Careful training period and support by staff and research group leader
