The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) invites applications for a PostDoc Researcher in the area of molecular modelling of chemical reactions at Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Technology (MEMTI) within the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI), located in Lugano. The degree of employment is 100%, with a contract starting on October 1, 2025, or on a mutually agreed date. |

The selected candidate conducts advanced research with a focus on the analysis and development of catalytic materials of interest to produce energy carriers that are alternative to fossil fuels (e.g. synthetic fuels, ammonia, methanol and hydrogen). In particular, the candidate :

Develop advanced molecular modelling of reactive systems of heterogeneous catalysis.

Conduct research in the area of machine learning interatomic potentials.

Desing innovative solutions to enhance the performance of molecular simulations and analysis.

Essential Requirements

PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or related disciplines to the research programme.

Expertise in the field of atomistic simulations of catalytic systems under operating conditions.

Good skills in the development and use of machine learning based interatomic potentials.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the use of molecular simulation software (e.g., CP2K, quantum espresso, gaussian, lammps, plumed, etc.)

Experience in advanced computational methods (e.g. dimensionality reduction, pattern recognition, supervised and unsupervised clustering, neural networks, genetic algorithms, etc.)

Good programming skills.

Proven ability to conduct complex and multifaceted research activities.

Ability to work independently and in teams.

Good communication, scientific data presentation and scientific article writing skills.

Excellent command of spoken and written English.

A fixed-term contract (2 years) with possibility of renewal.
