UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) leads revenue generation and advocacy from the private sector to fund UNICEF programmatic activity and drive results for children.

PFP is projected to generate over$ 7 billion for programmes during the 2022-2025 strategic plan.

Within the Finance section of PFP, the Budget and Analysis Unit (BAU) supports the work of PFP in the following areas :

  • Formulation, administration, and management of the PFP divisional budget.
  • Provide PFP revenue projections by fundraising streams and markets, review National Committees and UNICEF country offices performance through comparative analysis of actuals against established Joint Strategic Plans and Private Sector Plans and provide data analysis to PFP and UNICEF senior management for strategic business decisions.
  • Provide advanced and affordability studies of UNICEF country offices for investment / loan decisions and administer and manage PFP investments in fundraising.
  • Identify, design, develop and implement business intelligence to capture, consolidate, organize, analyze and report financial and non-financial information for PFP.

This role will specifically focus on assigned aspects of points 2 and 4, selecting data analysis and presentation methodologies and making justifying assumptions.

It will support the enhancements of the revenue and expenditure projections of the National Committees and UNICEF's country offices, which become the source of the UNICEF private sector resources and measures of the PFP financial performance.

Given the significant current and future investment, this role will ensure robust oversight, due diligence, transparency, profitability analysis, and reporting of the National Committees' and UNICEF country offices' fundraising results.

For every child, a Champion

Under the overall guidance of the Finance Manager, the Business Analyst is responsible for analytical input on financial planning, forecasting and review of National Committees' performance, and for the analytic input on targets and results in country offices.

Follow-up and monitoring through comparative analysis of actual performance against established Joint Strategic Plans (JSP) and Private Sector Plans (PSP).

Assess and analyze the performance and cost structure of National Committees and UNICEF country offices based on RERs and other reports submitted, thus providing meaningful data to support the strategic development of these partners through the JSP, PSP and the PFP Strategic Plan.

Provide data analysis as a basis for strategic business decisions, identifying data requirements and designing templates (for scorecards, JSP, PSP, budgetary reviews, benchmarking, KPls, etc) for effective presentation of info.

Optimize PFP's Business Intelligence (BI) capacity (, data modelling, data validation) and business optimization projects.

How can you make a difference?

1. Supports the Finance Manager in preparing, collecting, forecasting, simulation, monitoring, benchmarking, and reviewing financial data

  • Conduct financial analysis of JSP, QFS (Quarterly Financial Scorecard), and RER (Revenue and Expenditure Report).
  • Comment on variance to the JSP, PSP, and projected PFP targets.
  • Develop and simulate financial planning for revenue generation strategies. Analyze and benchmark against the financial statements of global competitors.

2. Ensures timely and consistent preparation of periodic performance reports (internal and external) and data validation / verification

  • Year-end results, annual targets, and forecasts in QFS and RER reports, benchmarking, rankings, Per Capita, Contribution Ratio, RR ratio.
  • Exchange rate impact vs real growth.
  • Participates in projected revenue consolidation / verification regularly to ensure up to-date projections in various PFP, DFAM arid UNICEF Board documents and to support RR resource management as required.

3. Designs financial templates, presentations, and periodic reports for different forums (PFP Cabinet (SMT), Standing Group, NatCom Consultation, Budget reviews, Fundraising Forum, Finance Officers meeting, etc.,)

4. Provides training in Budget & Analysis related issues to NatCom and PFP staff, and documents related procedures.

To qualify as a Champion for every child you will have

Education :

  • An Advanced University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, or another relevant technical field is required.
  • A valid professional qualification and membership in an internationally recognized accountancy body (Certified Public or Chartered Accountant, ACCA, CIPFA, etc.

will be considered in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Training in SAP (FM and FI modules), business intelligence tools and data warehousing is required.

Experience :

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in the fields of accounting and business analysis in industrial / commercial or equivalent environment, preferably at international level is required.
  • Familiarity with computerized accounting environment is required. Knowledge of SAP or a similar financial accounting package is an asset.
  • Proficiency in database management, business intelligence tools, and data warehousing is an asset.

Language requirements :

  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of French or another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
