Job Title: TRADER - Base Metals - GENEVA
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Base Metals Trader to join our clients dynamic trading desk in Geneva. This role requires deep market insight, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record in base metals trading, encompassing both physical and derivatives markets.
The successful candidate will work closely with the existing Asia-based trading teams while leading the development of the European platform, with significant responsibility for regional business growth, trading performance, and market strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and execute proprietary trading strategies for various base metals, including but not limited to Copper, Aluminum, Zinc, Lead, Nickel, and Tin.
- Manage a trading book with a focus on generating consistent profits through arbitrage, hedging, and speculative positions across physical and financial instruments (futures, options, swaps).
- Conduct comprehensive fundamental and technical analysis of global base metal markets, identifying key trends, supply/demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors impacting prices.
- Monitor and manage market risk exposure, ensuring adherence to established risk limits and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Negotiate and execute physical contracts, ensuring efficient logistics, financing, and operational coordination with relevant internal departments.
- Utilize advanced quantitative models and trading tools to enhance decision-making and optimize trade execution.
- Provide regular market commentary, P&L reports, and risk assessments to senior management.
· 10 –15+ years of experience in Base Metals trading within leading global commodity trading houses.
· Strong expertise across both physical and derivatives/paper trading.
· Proven track record in building profitable trading books and expanding market presence.
· Deep understanding of European Base Metals markets, flows, and counterparties.
· Strong network across producers, consumers, banks, brokers, and trading counterparties.
