We are looking for a Rare Disease Lead Switzerland who is experienced within rare diseases and launches of new solutions as well as curious, results oriented and driven to change the patient journey of neuromuscular disorders for the better in Switzerland .
About the role
The Rare Disease Lead represents UCB in the communities we serve in the Netherlands as we strive toward transforming the lives of those living with Rare Diseases.
Playing an integral role in identifying and building collaborative relationships with all relevant healthcare professional stakeholders, the RD Lead embraces and executes commercial strategies built on a solid scientific foundation, enabling access for all rare patients we can serve.
The RD Lead masters brand messaging, targeting, and digital technology to deliver persuasive, high-impact customer experiences tailored to distinct user segments while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
The RD Lead is an expert on the practices, delivery networks, regional patient journey and patient populations within their territory.
The RD Lead decisively and proactively allocates time as well as budget to maximize awareness, change patient journeys for the better (earlier and precise diagnosis, faster access to higher efficacious treatments) and the appropriate use of UCB products.

- External : Targeted physicians / HCPs and all care team members (e.g. nurses, referring physicians, access enabling hospital stakeholders)
- Internal : Rare Disease Organization Leadership Team, Marketing, Market Access, Patient Engagement, MSL, Medical strategy
What you’ll do
- Consistently and pro-actively operates with the highest level of ethics and integrity serving rare disease patients and in line with local requirements.
- Externally focused and creates value for patients based on insights
- Maintains in-depth comprehension of assigned territory in terms of stakeholder needs, patient pathways and ecosystem collaborations
- Executes strategic business / accounts plans including the network / regional patient journey and reflects a thorough understanding of the territory stakeholders involved in the patient pathways
- Delivers / communicates balanced information on new therapies in rare disease areas
- Masters targeted disease states, which include a deep appreciation of patient journeys, standards of care, treatment drivers, clinical data (efficacy & safety) on UCB products and competitors
- Advocate for Rare Disease patients and serve as the authority on the various tools and resources UCB offers to support physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care providers
- Support relationships with regional patient advocacy groups (under the leadership of national Patient Engagement Lead and / or Medical) and partner to support appropriate patient education and disease state awareness activities in the community / network.
- Continuously expands expertise of all treating and referring physicians, as well as payers, hospital systems, pharmacies, labs, and other components of the care continuum;
maintain awareness and remain attentive to the dynamics between different stakeholders that influence patient treatment decisions
Maintains strong relationships within the regional payer landscape to ensure providers are informed on coverage and reimbursement status and enables access for patients.
Collaborate with the payer access team to ensure all relevant stakeholders are working with the most-up-to-date information to maximize access and affordability for patients using UCB products
- Collaborates cross-functionally with UCB colleagues to share insights on customer needs and market opportunities; work together towards more effective approaches to patient value creation
- Maintains commitment to continuous improvement (embracing a growth mindset) as evidenced by insights gained / shared about geography, stakeholders, and customer needs through day-to-day work;
growth in core competencies with feedback sought from managers and colleagues, courses taken, on-the-job projects and relevant trainings
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience, and skills
- Scientific background preferred
- 5+ years of field-based experience in sales, account management, and / or field reimbursement in biopharmaceuticals (research-driven) within a competitive specialty market segment
- Fluency in French, Dutch and English (verbally and written)
- Proven record of sustained high sales performance and achievement, developing thought leader relationships
- involvement in successful product launches
- High levels of curiosity to understand "the why" and timely execution towards serving rare disease patients
- External impact focused and solution oriented agile team player; Ability to conceive, organize, prioritize, and manage multi-element projects, particularly requiring collaboration across departments and disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to maximize impact of multichannel / digital tools and strategy / tactics with territory HCPs
- Effective at managing complex individualized cases and projects
- comfortable spending up to 30% of time traveling with overnight travel required (territory business need dependent)
- Command of key medical, scientific, and healthcare concepts, data analysis, language, and practices related to neurology and rare diseases
- serving a variety of accounts along the patient journey academic centers, community / office-based care, hospitals, and private office practices
- Discipline and clarity in the daily documenting / reporting activities and learnings from territory
- Ability to propose, manage & execute projects in assigned territory cross-functionally
